City of Columbia to host dedication ceremony for new Pollinator Trail Art Post

(COLUMBIA, MO)- The City of Columbia invites community members to attend a dedication ceremony celebrating the new Pollinator Trail Art Post from 4-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at the corner of North Providence Road and Blue Ridge Road. Attendees are encouraged to park at Grace Bible Church, 601 Blue Ridge Road, and walk to the event site.

The dedication ceremony will feature a short welcome from Mayor Barbara Buffaloe accompanied by remarks from Ward 2 Council Member Vera Elwood, former Ward 2 Council Member Lisa E.A. Meyer and artist Adrienne Luther. Remarks will be followed by a seed-spreading activity with native wildflower seeds and a viewing of the newly installed art post.

This community-driven project shines a spotlight on the vital role of local pollinators and native wildflowers, while showcasing the power of art and collaboration to promote environmental stewardship. The concept was inspired by Meyer, whose passion for education and community partnerships helped bring together local artists, educators and City departments.

The art installation was created in collaboration with Luther, who worked alongside a summer school class from Parkade Elementary to design and paint colorful motifs celebrating Missouri's native wildflowers and pollinators. In addition to the art post, the site includes newly planted trees that enhance pollinator habitat and contribute to Columbia's growing urban tree canopy.

The Pollinator Trail Art Post Project is a partnership among the City of Columbia's Public Works department, Community Development department, Office of Sustainability, Office of Cultural Affairs and Tree Board.

Location: Corner of North Providence Road and Blue Ridge Road
