Minister Grlić Radman in Brussels on importance of EU unity in Ukraine support

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman participated on Monday, 15 December 2025, in a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.

During the meeting, ministers discussed Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, including Syria, relations between the European Union and China, as well as current regional and global security challenges.

Addressing Ukraine, Grlić Radman reaffirmed Croatia's enduring and strong support for Ukraine in defending its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, underscoring the importance of a unified, credible and long-term European engagement in providing political, military and financial assistance. In this context, he stressed that a just and sustainable peace must be grounded in international law and ensured with the full involvement of Ukraine in all phases of peace efforts.

Together with the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Maria Malmer Stenergard, the minister also sent a joint letter to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, proposing enhanced European cooperation in the area of care and reintegration of Ukrainian war veterans.

In the discussion on the Middle East, Grlić Radman highlighted the need to continue intensive diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilising the region, improving the humanitarian situation - particularly in Gaza - and supporting political solutions based on international law and the two-state solution. He emphasised the importance of coordinated and balanced action by the European Union in cooperation with international partners.

Speaking on relations between the European Union and China, the minister stressed the importance of preserving European unity, pursuing a balanced approach that includes dialogue, risk reduction and the protection of the Union's strategic interests, as well as the need for a common response to security, economic and technological challenges.
