Residents of Greenleaf Gardens, James Creek Dwellings, and Syphax Gardens came together August 9 for the first Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party of the month, an event aimed at fostering unity and revitalizing neighborhood ties.
The event featured a variety of food from The Angry Jerk, Kelly's Kickin Cuisine, and Big Moe's Catering. There was live music and dancing, and activities for kids including bouncy houses, a foam party, face painting, and a video gaming station.
DCHA families also received free groceries and household supplies. Free haircuts were also available, and there were t-shirt, hat and other giveaways.
At the Aug. 9 event, DCHA Commissioner Leroy Clay, along with DCHA's Office of Public Safety and more staff, joined the fun.
Service providers also took part, engaging with residents and offering everything from health and education resources to job training and employment opportunities. Participating organizations included local nonprofits, academic institutions, private employers, and DC government agencies-all working together to uplift and support the residents of the District.
This event was part of the DC Housing Authority's Rebuilding Our Communities initiative that brings DCHA residents, DCHA staff, volunteers, and local service providers together for fun-filled day that also offers meaningful opportunities to access valuable resources. The Rebuilding Our Communities initiative highlights the power of shared spaces and collective celebration, turning neighborhood streets into hubs of engagement, support, and community pride.
DCHA is grateful to the service providers who helped make this event possible.
