The world's most prolific Christmastime communicator, Santa Claus, will spread holiday cheer this month in a variety of ways.
One of the more unique opportunities to greet Santa will happen across ham radio airwaves, connecting Scranton to the North Pole.
The University of Scranton's W3USR amateur radio station will participate in CQ Santa, an open call in which Santa will invite ham radio operators from around the world to join him.
The state-of-the-art W3USR offices on the fifth floor of the Loyola Science Center will be open to children and their parents from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on the following dates when CQ Santa is live. Families should arrive by 7:45 PM to make sure they can be checked into the net.
The offices and hardware will be staffed by W3USR volunteers, students and faculty members who will help children transmit their wishes and greetings to Santa as he responds in real time. Questions can be sent to [email protected].
