On May 6th, 2026 just after 9pm, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 9400 N. Division St. A caller reported hearing gunshots and seeing a group run away immediately after. A short while later, a local hospital employee called 911 to report a victim had arrived with a gunshot wound.
Officers responded to both the hospital and the 9400 block of N. Division St. Officers collected evidence, to include video footage and shell casings, as well as witness statements. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
SPD's Major Crimes Unit (MCU) arrived and took over the investigation. The suspect was identified over the course of the initial investigation but was not located on May 6th despite efforts. Investigators were able to determine this was an isolated incident and there was no immediate threat to the public.
Over the course of the next couple days, investigators worked to locate the suspect involved. On May 8th, the suspect was located by SPD's Special Investigations Unit, and a search warrant was served at an apartment in Airway Heights. Specialty units, including SWAT, ASU, and HNT were called in to assist.
Tabarius Johnson Jr (18) was arrested for Assault 1st Degree and booked into the Spokane County Jail.
