TAMPA, FL (August 24, 2026) - A new generation of public servants is officially ready to answer the call of duty as thirty-two dedicated individuals prepare to take their oath as Tampa Police Officers.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 2:00 pm, Mayor Jane Castor and Acting Chief Brett Owen will formally welcome these new recruits during a swearing-in ceremony at the Bob Buckhorn River Center, located at 402 W. Laurel St. This event represents far more than the start of a career; it reflects a profound, ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone who lives, works, or visits the City of Tampa.

Among the recruits are many who have previously served the Tampa community in different capacities, including two former Tampa Police Dispatchers, a Tampa Police Reserve Officer, and a Tampa Police Explorer.

This incoming class brings a strong mix of local roots and seasoned experience to the department, including 24 professionals who were sponsored through the police academy, and eight who are bringing their previous law enforcement experience to Tampa.

The group is also comprised of six individuals proudly continuing a family legacy of wearing the badge. The class proudly draws significant strength from military veterans, spanning the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Navy, whose discipline and dedication previously guarded our nation and will now protect our local community.
