FRC's Tony Perkins to Testify Before House Foreign Affairs Committee on Atrocities in Sudan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 11, 2025
CONTACT: J.P. Duffy or Alice Chao, (866) FRC-NEWS or (866)-372-6397

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- This afternoon, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins will be testifying before the House Foreign Affairs Committee's Africa Subcommittee on "Stopping the Bloodshed: U.S. Response to Crimes Against Humanity in Sudan." The hearing will examine the current status of the ongoing civil war in Sudan, including reported atrocities against civilians, and will seek to evaluate U.S. policy options to bring the fighting to an end.

Perkins previously served as the Chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom from 2019 to 2020. In 2020, he traveled to Sudan as a part of a U.S. government delegation to discuss religious freedom with the then-transitional Sudanese prime minister Abdalla Hamdok. Under Hamdok's leadership, actions were being taken to improve religious freedom. Those improvements began to slip away after the military coup in 2021, which led to the present war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. The war atrocities, committed by both sides, has produced the world's largest displacement crisis: estimates run to 12--14 million people uprooted (roughly a quarter to a third of Sudan's population), including millions internally displaced and millions more as refugees in Chad, South Sudan, Egypt, and elsewhere.
