Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) released the following statement regarding the lapse in government appropriations.
"Nearly two weeks ago, House Republicans passed a clean continuing resolution to keep the government open for hardworking Americans and avoid a costly government shutdown," said Rep Walberg. "However, Democrats in the Senate refused to pass this continuing resolution to try to impede the work of the President and placate their base. Nearly every Democrat in the House and Senate has previously supported the same legislation under the Biden administration and many supported it again under the Trump administration back in March, but they now have decided to walk away from this nonpartisan deal. As a result, government funding has now lapsed, harming hardworking Michiganders. I urge Senate Democrats to stop playing political games and pass the nonpartisan funding deal so that we can reopen the government and ensure that veterans, military families, air traffic controllers, and others receive their pay and benefits."
