College Board Acquires MyinTuition to Help Students and Families Better Understand the True Cost of College

The College Board today announced it is acquiring MyinTuition, which provides innovative and easy-to-use college cost estimation tools that give students and families a clearer picture of what they'll actually pay for college.

For many students, the path to higher education is clouded by uncertainty about cost. Sticker prices can be inaccurate, and navigating the complexities of financial aid, scholarships, and grants often creates confusion. As a result, most people significantly overestimate the cost of college, according to the Strada Education Foundation. Expanding access to simple, early estimates can play a critical role in helping students explore and pursue college opportunities.

MyinTuition helps solve this challenge by giving students and families simple, clear, personalized estimates so they can better understand what college will actually cost. With this acquisition, College Board is making it easier for families to get the information they need to make confident financial decisions.

"College Board is excited to join forces with MyinTuition to make college pricing more transparent and accessible," said Kedra Ishop, senior vice president of higher education, membership and access for College Board. "Students deserve to understand what college will truly cost early in their journey. By bringing MyinTuition into our work, we can help millions of students nationwide access reliable, easy-to-use tools that support smarter planning and open doors to opportunity."

MyinTuition stands apart from traditional net price calculators by offering a streamlined and accessible approach to understanding college costs. It features two tools to support college affordability decisions:

  • Instant Net Price Estimator: Provides a high-level range of what a college education may cost based on minimal input, giving students an accessible starting point for exploration.
  • Quick Cost Estimator: Delivers a more personalized estimate of what a family might pay, using a short set of six questions that can typically be completed in just minutes.

Founded by Wellesley College economics professor Phillip Levine, MyinTuition has already helped hundreds of thousands of students see that higher education is within reach. The application currently delivers approximately 800,000 personalized estimates each year. By joining College Board, MyinTuition aims to expand to more institutions and reach millions of students across the country.

"MyinTuition was created to simplify a process that has long been confusing and discouraging for too many families," said Phillip Levine, an economics professor at Wellesley College and founder of MyinTuition. "By joining College Board, we have an incredible opportunity to scale this work and ensure that far more students can access clear, early information about college costs and make decisions with confidence."

Currently used by 69 colleges and universities, MyinTuition has proven effective in helping institutions deliver clearer financial information to prospective students.

"At Yale, we've found MyinTuition to be an invaluable tool for communicating to prospective students what they can expect to pay after accounting for our generous financial aid," said Jeremiah Quinlan, dean of undergraduate admissions and financial aid at Yale University. "It conveys quickly and clearly that a Yale education may be more affordable than they realize. We welcome College Board's acquisition of MyinTuition as an important step toward expanding price transparency and access in higher education."
