Delegation Calls on Trump’s EPA to Protect Rhode Islanders Health and Environment from Climate Change

WASHINGTON, DC - TODAY, Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, and Congressmen Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amocalled on Trump and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin, to safeguard the Endangerment Finding - which establishes that greenhouse gas emissions are dangerous to humans - to protect Rhode Islanders and the environment.

The Members write:

"Allowing polluters to pump our atmosphere full of planet-warming greenhouse gases will not only make Rhode Islanders' lives shorter and sicker; it will cost them billions. Extreme weather disasters have cost Rhode Island up to $500 million over the last five years alone. In the next 15 years, defending Rhode Island's infrastructure, homes, businesses, and communities from more frequent and intense storms and flooding could cost the state $2.9 billion."

"Rescinding the Endangerment Finding is the first step towards rolling back clean car and truck standards, oil and gas rules, power plant rules, landfill rules, and other regulations that protect against climate change. This is yet another giveaway to corporate polluters on the backs of Rhode Islanders' health and wellbeing. Repealing the Endangerment Finding will add fuel to the already raging fire of climate change, triggering more extreme weather, putting our constituents' lives at risk, and costing billions of dollars in damages."
