With support from Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE), the City of Menlo Park will install solar photovoltaic (PV) panels at City Hall (701 Laurel St.). The system will include panels on the roof and new solar carports in the parking lot. Construction on the rooftop portion is anticipated to start Dec. 15. The full scope is expected to take approximately 12 weeks and will not affect building hours of operation. There will be limited parking disruptions during the rooftop work, with greater impacts during carport construction.
Additional information about bike and pedestrian detours and alternative parking locations will be shared in January ahead of the start of the carport work. This work is part of the City's Climate Action Plan goal to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from City operations and would add to the City's existing solar PV systems.
The project will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Please expect some noise and temporary disruptions in the parking lot. Alternative parking will be available in other Burgess Campus lots: the City Council Chambers lot and the Burgess Tennis Courts lot on Laurel Street, and the Burgess Baseball Field lot on Alma Street.
Additional locations for solar PV installations through PCE's GovPV Solar for Public Buildings program include the Arrillaga Family Gymnastics Center, Belle Haven Child Development Center and the Menlo Park Library.
