Pakistan: Grain and Feed Update

The 2026/27 wheat production estimate is unchanged at 29 million tons. Wheat imports are projected to be at a negligible level. The new wheat procurement system failed to launch effectively, and actual procurement has remained well short of the intended target. The 2026/27 rice production forecast is reduced to 9.1 million tons due to a decrease in planting area. Rice exports are projected at 4.7 million tons for 2025/26, while 2026/27 rice exports are forecast at 4.9 million tons. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz is creating logistical challenges for Pakistan's rice exports. The government has operationalized six new overland trade corridors for exports to Iran and onward to Central Asian Republics.
