Schoolchildren from CIS Countries Gather at 11th “Children of Commonwealth” Cultural and Educational Forum in Khujand

This year, the forum was held in Khujand, Tajikistan, from 16 to 24 June at the invitation of Speaker of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Rustami Emomali.

The forum brought together school students from nine Commonwealth of Independent States countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Participants learned about the history, culture and traditions of the countries of the region and took part in workshops, sports competitions, intellectual games, educational training sessions, music contests and arts evenings. Each delegation presented a programme of cultural and educational activities reflecting the richness and uniqueness of its national culture.

On 24 June, the final day of the forum, the participants visited the Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan in Dushanbe, the capital of the country. They were welcomed by Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Fayzali Idizoda, who spoke about the work of the legislature, its structure and its role in the life of the country.

The "Children of the Commonwealth" project has been implemented by the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS with the support of the CIS Humanitarian Action Trust Fund since 2013.
