Discovering Vernal Pools

Vernal pools are seasonal wetlands that form after winter rains and provide critical habitat for rare and sensitive species many of which are under state and federal regulations. These temporary ecosystems are an important and distinctive part of the region's natural landscape.

On Saturday, February 28, at 9:00am, the public is invited to attend a Vernal Pool Education Session at the Woodcreek Oak Preserve, led by Volmar Natural Lands Consulting. This guided, outdoor session will provide general information about vernal pools, an opportunity to learn more about these unique natural features. While exploring the preserve you might even get catch a glimpse of a fairy shrimp.

The session will take place as a walking, outdoor educational experience and will last approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Spring conditions make this a good time to observe vernal pools and the surrounding habitat.
Participants will meet behind the CVS parking lot at 1771 Pleasant Grove Blvd, Roseville, CA 95747, which provides access to the preserve.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is requested to help staff plan for attendance. You can register here. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes or boots and dress for outdoor conditions.
