The ABU 57th Programme Committee Meeting took place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and featured a day of rich discussions, talks and video presentations. Seventy participants attended from more than 20 member organisations. The meeting was opened by Ms Gerel Gankhuyag, Director General of MNB, Mongolia; Mr Zolbayar Ulziibayar, Press Director at the Office of the President of Mongolia; and Ahmed Nadeem, ABU Secretary-General.
The meeting highlighted BBS Bhutan's approach to the preservation of archives and heritage, as well as a panel discussion on the challenges of safeguarding national heritage. Chevaan Daniel from CMG Sri Lanka, emphasised that preservation was not just about the past but also about the present. In addition to this, Nesryn Bouziane, from ABC Australia said there was a strong link between archives and collective memory and the vital role public media organisations play.
The Committee also underlined the importance of collaboration in cultural preservation and encouraged members to share best practices and experiences. These exchanges reflected the ABU's commitment to supporting its members in addressing shared challenges while fostering dialogue on cultural and media priorities.
ABU members further took the opportunity to invite other delegates to be involved with upcoming events and activities. The pitching session, always a popular feature of the Programme Committee, featured presentations from a wide range of members, showcasing creative ideas and strengthening opportunities for future cooperation.
