When everything hits at once - essays, presentations, projects and tests - finals week can feel overwhelming. But take a breath, Warriors! With a smart approach and organization, you can power through the end of the semester.
Here are seven ways to get ready for your finals while still taking care of your well-being:
1. Create a study schedule (and stick to it!)
Last-minute studying can leave you feeling overwhelmed. A smarter approach is to prepare ahead by listing your exam dates and building a steady routine. Schedule dedicated study periods in a planner and prioritize the topics that need the most practice. When you divide your studying into smaller, focused sessions, you'll stay on track and feel more confident going into exams.
2. Find your study zone
The UGL is one of the most popular places to study, offering everything from quiet zones to collaborative spaces. The newly renovated Student Success Hub provides a dynamic shared space for students. Access multiple services, seek help and connect at this one-stop location. It's open late and provides access to computers, printers and tech support. The second floor has whiteboards and group tables that are perfect for study sessions.
If you're looking to switch up your environment, be sure to check out other great study spots across campus as well.
3. Tap into campus resources
Take advantage of the Academic Success Center's Final Exam Drop-In Sessions to strengthen your understanding, ask questions and build confidence as you head into exams. Sessions run until Dec. 12.
The University Library System offers 24/7 librarian support, citation style guides and more.
Technology support and services are available through the C&IT Help Desk. Call, email or stop in for one-on-one help with any WSU IT systems.
Don't wait until the last minute - reach out early! Asking for help shows you're planning, and it sets you up for success..
4. Test yourself
Try testing yourself instead of just rereading notes - it's one of the most effective ways to lock information into your long-term memory. Use tools like digital flashcards or jot down quick question-and-answer prompts on paper to challenge what you know. Short, steady study sessions - around 10 to 15 minutes each day - can add up and leave you far more confident when exam time arrives.
5. Take care of your body and brain
Join the Campus Activities team for Late Night Breakfast on Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 9 p.m. to midnight in Towers Café to relax, take a study break and enjoy breakfast favorites. Spend the night with friends or meet new ones while enjoying a live DJ and a photo booth. Admission requires either a meal swipe or a canned or nonperishable food item for the W Food Pantry and Thrift Shop.
6. Take study breaks
Creating time blocks is another secret to studying. Try to set a timer for 25 minutes of focused study followed by a five-minute break to avoid burnout. Use that time to stretch, breathe or walk around campus. The Mort Harris Fitness and Recreation Center is a great place to move your body and clear your mind.
7. Stay positive and give yourself grace
Take a moment to recognize your hard work and growth. If you're feeling overwhelmed, lean on your support system - talk to a friend, connect with a professor, reach out to the Campus Health Center, or take advantage of Counseling and Psychological Services' "Let's Talk service."
You've got this, Warriors!
