Warrants served, additional suspects arrested in Saturday shooting
Two Gresham youths are in custody facing charges of attempted murder.
The charges stem from a weekend shooting that critically injured a 17-year-old in Gresham. Police responded to a shooting near NE 188th Avenue and E Burnside Street just after 2:30 pm Saturday. Officers found one person who had been shot. The victim was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.
One suspect, 19-year-old Cruz Otzoy Aguilar, was located nearby, following a search supported by a UAS team. Otzoy Aguilar faces charges of attempted murder in the first degree, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, and unlawful use of a weapon.
Early on the morning of August 5, East Metro SWAT and detectives from the East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team served search warrants at two different residences in Gresham. Two additional suspects, each 14 years old, were taken into custody. They were referred to juvenile court to face charges of attempted murder, assault in the first degree, and unlawful use of a weapon.
"This shooting highlighted both the devastating impact of violent crime and the strength of those who respond in times of crisis. The suspects' callous and reckless actions left a child critically injured. This violence is unacceptable," said Gresham Police Chief Travis Gullberg. "The people of the Gresham Police Department remain unwavering in their commitment to the safety of our city. I would like to recognize the exceptional life-saving care responding patrol officers provided in the aftermath of Saturday's shooting. Through their outstanding training, professionalism, and determination, our officers and detectives worked tirelessly to identify those responsible and ensure they are held accountable for their actions."
