Gov. Oyebanji Urges Greater Collaboration Among Revenue- Generating Agencies To Enhance IGR

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has called for stronger collaboration among revenue-generating agencies in the State, in order to boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), block leakages and enhance service delivery.

Governor Oyebanji made the call during a mid-year review meeting with heads of revenue-generating agencies at the EXCO Chamber, Governor's Office , Ado- Ekiti on Thursday.

The meeting which reviewed the state's revenue administration and compliance level, was attended by the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akin Oyebode; Commissioner for Transport, Hon Kehinde Ajobiewe, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Niyi Adebayo; Chairman, Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Niran Olatona; Accountant General of the State, Mrs Ariyike Olayinka; as well as political and administrative heads of revenue- generating agencies.

Stressing the need for all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to work closely with EKIRS, the Governor noted that effective collaboration remains critical to achieving the state's revenue target, adding that the meeting was convened to review the performance of revenue-generating agencies and assess the level of compliance with existing revenue policies.

The heads of the MDAs provided feedbacks on areas of challenges, prospects and targets as well as plans for improvement on revenue drive.

The Governor further directed all the agencies to transit fully from manual revenue collection to automated processes, stressing that manual collection of revenues is not only outdated but prone to leakages and fraud.

As part of measures to ensure compliance, Governor Oyebanji said a comprehensive review of the level of compliance by all revenue-generating agencies will take place in September.

While maintaining that his administration remains committed to building a more efficient and transparent system, the Governor charged all the heads of agencies to key into government's vision by working together, complying fully with established procedures and ensuring that every kobo due to the State is properly accounted for.
