2025 Tribute of the Muses Award Winners Announced

YUMA, Ariz. - The City of Yuma's Arts and Culture Division has announced four new honorees recognized during Tribute of the Muses, the community's premier arts celebration. Marking its 25th year with a "Greek Mythology" theme, the ceremony was held Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Historic Yuma Theatre.

The Tribute of the Muses Award, presented annually to an outstanding member of Yuma's arts community who demonstrates exemplary devotion and excellence in the arts, was awarded to Desiree Guerrero and Fredy Joel Valenzuela. This talented artistic team is helping shape Yuma's creative landscape through their work in visual arts, meditation, theater, music, and dance. Their collaborative performances, photography, and storytelling create immersive experiences that inspire reflection and connection. Their creative synergy-from captivating children's poetry to innovative community art projects-continues to enrich Yuma's cultural scene.

The Helios Award, which recognizes an emerging artist making a significant impact, was presented to Eric Castanos. A lifelong Yuma artist, he has built a career in design, photography, and film, producing work for national campaigns, global athletic events, and brands such as HWPO Training, R.A.D Global, and the CrossFit Games. He applies this experience to deliver high-quality visual storytelling for local families, businesses, and organizations.

The Odyssey Award, honoring an outstanding organization, business, or group demonstrating a strong commitment to the arts, was presented to Yuma Community Theater (YCT). Through stage productions, education programs, and community partnerships, YCT nurtures local talent, expands access to the arts, and creates welcoming spaces that reflect the region's diversity. Their work celebrates the power of live theater to inspire and bring people together.

The Apollo Award for an outstanding arts educator was awarded to Ann Wilkinson. Since arriving in Yuma to teach at Arizona Western College, she has directed and collaborated on numerous productions and community performances. Her work has supported local celebrations, school events, and regional arts initiatives, including service with the Screen Actors Guild, the Arizona Commission on the Arts, DIY Murals, and Arizona Creative Aging. A four-time Yuma Art Center Theatre Fellow and dedicated supporter of local arts organizations, she continues to strengthen Yuma's creative community.

Each year, the top Tribute of the Muses honoree is presented with a custom art award created by a local artist. The 2025 award, titled "Celebrating 25 Years," was designed and crafted by artist Judy Phillips. Award recipients were selected by the Parks, Arts and Recreation Commission.

The event's name draws from Greek Mythology, where the nine daughters of Zeus-known as the Muses-were celebrated as the inspiration for the arts and sciences, each guiding a distinct creative discipline such as poetry, art, dance, and music.
