Alumni Spotlight: Mary Beth Hall - From GCSU to Senior Audit Accountant

After working part-time with Nichols Cauley & Associates during her BBA and MAcc programs, Mary Beth Hall transitioned into a full-time role as a staff accountant in audit and was promoted to senior audit accountant in July 2024. She credits Professor Manrodt's Accounting Profession class with shaping her career perspective, noting that "communication is a key skill in accounting, and that you don't just hide away crunching numbers all day."

One of her proudest accomplishments was passing all four sections of the CPA exam while completing her MAcc and working part-time - a milestone she says gave her an early boost in her career.

Hall highlights the impact of her Georgia College & State University experience, sharing how professors like Dr. Thomas (audit risk model), Professor El-Jourbagy (ESG independent study) and Professor Manrodt (networking skills) provided not only technical knowledge but also meaningful mentorships.

"Overall, it was the interpersonal communication and innovative teaching of all of the professors I had during my time at GCSU that prepared me for my career," she said.

Her advice for current students: "Build as many relationships as you can with students, professors, leaders, everyone. It will make your college experience better and also be so valuable as you transition into the post-college world."

Looking ahead, Hall sees rapid technological changes reshaping the field. She emphasizes the value of Excel proficiency, strong communication skills and AI.

"AI has already had a huge impact in the accounting industry," Hall said. "I think that it presents a lot of opportunities for efficiency when used correctly."
