BOZEMAN - Montana State University's Helen E. Copeland Gallery is hosting a new exhibit, "Standing in the River: Recent Paintings and Sculptures by Sara Mast," through Friday, Sept. 19.

The gallery, located on the second floor of Haynes Hall on MSU's campus, will also hold a reception and artist talk for the exhibit from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4. Hors d'oeuvres and light refreshments will be served.

The exhibit features 13 paintings and sculptures created by artist Sara Mast, who has displayed her work nationally and internationally, including in more than 40 corporate and private collections worldwide. Mast's oil and cold wax paintings are paired with sculptures or embedded with plasma-enhanced melter glass, which is the byproduct of a technological process that breaks down waste.

"The paintings, reliefs and sculptural objects investigate how meaning lies in a material dialogue between the technological transformation of human detritus and the visceral qualities of painting," Mast said.

For more information about the exhibit or reception, call the School of Art at 406-994-4501 or visit the gallery's website at https://http://art.montana.edu/copeland-gallery.
