Secretary Schwab Announces Appointment of Johnson County Election Commissioner

TOPEKA - Today, Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab announced the appointment of Connie Schmidt as Johnson County Election Commissioner.

"I am pleased to announce Connie Schmidt has been selected to serve as Johnson County Election Commissioner," said Secretary Schwab. "Her extensive experience and knowledge of election administration make her exceptionally qualified for this role. We are excited to welcome Connie back to Johnson County."

Schmidt has more than 31 years of experience in election administration. She previously served as the Johnson County Election Commissioner from 1995-2004 and returned to the role in 2020, overseeing the county's elections during that presidential election year. Schmidt later owned her own election consulting business and provided services to numerous election agencies, including the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. Throughout her career, she chaired and/or served as a member of the Professional Education Certification Board, the NASED Voting Systems Standards Board and the State of Kansas HAVA Implementation Committee. She also managed the State Registered Election Official certification program in California, Virginia, Delaware and Ohio.

Her accomplishments have been recognized by the Election Center and the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), which awarded Schmidt the NASS Medallion Award and the Election Hall of Fame Award.

"Johnson County is fortunate to have someone with Connie's experience and expertise leading its elections," said Schwab. "She understands what it takes to administer secure, accurate and professional elections, and I look forward to the work she will do for Johnson County."
