Cybersecurity Tip of the Week – The Hidden Risks of Shared Streaming Accounts

Sharing streaming accounts may be convenient, but it can create unexpected security risks. Many families and friends share access to streaming services, shopping platforms, and other subscription accounts to save money. The problem arises when the same password is used across multiple sites. If one service experiences a data breach, attackers often use those stolen credentials to try logging into other accounts, a technique known as credential stuffing. What starts as a compromised streaming account could eventually lead to unauthorized access to email, banking, or shopping accounts. Protect yourself by using unique passwords for every service, enabling multi-factor authentication whenever available, and never sharing your password.

Streaming services are cracking down on shared access by documenting the number of devices used to access the service. Don't wait for someone else to create a secure environment for you.
