Rollstone Bank & Trust, an affiliate of River Run Bancorp, MHC, along with Newburyport Bank and Pentucket Bank, recently concluded a year-long celebration of the Bank's 180 years of serving individuals, families, and businesses throughout North Central Massachusetts.
Founded in 1846 as Fitchburg Savings Bank, Rollstone marked this impressive milestone with special activities throughout the year. From community giving to customer appreciation activities, the anniversary was an opportunity to honor the Bank's 180 years of service and partnership. Initiatives included weekly giveaways at branches and a limited-time offer of $500 off closing costs on a first mortgage-on top of collective annual giving with affiliated banks of nearly $1.6 million.
Aligned with Rollstone's dedication to the community, a highlight of its 180th anniversary was its Community Mini-Grant Program, which awarded twelve $180 grants to local nonprofit organizations nominated by Rollstone employees. The initiative invited employees to recognize causes meaningful to them, celebrating the personal connections and shared sense of community that have long been part of Rollstone's culture.
Mini-grant recipients included Fostering Change, Inc.; Townsend Ecumenical Outreach; New Dawn Arts Center; North Middlesex Patriots Boosters Club; NewVue Communities; Sowa Goat Sanctuary; Groton Hill Music Center; Empower Children for Success; The Arc of Opportunity; Fitchburg Art Museum; RB Racing Charity; and Up With Books.
The year-long celebration culminated in an anniversary event on October 15, 2026, at the Fitchburg Art Museum in a setting that reflects the Bank's ties to the community. Rollstone Bank & Trust awarded a $100,000 sponsorship to the museum's Centennial Free Admission program that helps make art, culture, and educational experiences accessible to all visitors free of charge through 2029. With the Museum celebrating its own 100th anniversary, the partnership reflects a shared belief in preserving longstanding institutions that make the community stronger while creating opportunities for future generations.
"Much has changed in banking over the last 180 years," noted Mary Beth Jokela, President and Chief Operating Officer of Rollstone Bank & Trust, "but the things that matter most have remained the same. Namely, that people want a bank they can trust, businesses need a partner who believes in their potential, and communities need local institutions that are invested in their success." Mary Beth continued: "Our Bank's milestone is a reflection of the people who have shaped its history: our customers, employees, local businesses, and neighbors. We're grateful for the trust they've placed in us, and we look forward to serving this community for many more generations to come."
