The Founding Celebration honors the Illinois State's founding on February 18, 1857, with events that celebrate the University's heritage and community. This tradition includes ceremonial ringing of the historic Old Main Bell to mark each year of the University's existence and recognition of distinguished faculty, staff, alumni, and other community members. The celebration reinforces the University's legacy of academic excellence, service, and shared commitment to the Redbird community.
Nominate a Bell Ringer
As part of Illinois State University's Founding Celebration events, the University invites nominations for individuals to serve as bell ringers during the Old Main Bell Ringing and Awards Ceremony-one of ISU's most meaningful traditions. Starting this year, the ceremony will include the ringing of the replica of the Old Main Bell and the presentation of the University's highest awards recognizing outstanding achievement in teaching, research, creative activity, service, and leadership.
