Simi Valley Seeks Youth Employment Service Advisory Board Member

The City of Simi Valley is now accepting applications for a Youth Representative, ages 16 to 22, to serve on the Youth Employment Service (YES) Advisory Board, a group dedicated to preparing local youth for the workforce and connecting students with real-world job opportunities. The application deadline is Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

The YES Advisory Board is key in empowering youth with essential career-readiness skills, promoting workplace professionalism, and advising the Simi Valley City Council on youth employment issues. The Board also leads two cornerstone programs: the annual Job and Career Fair and Interview Skills Workshops hosted at local high schools.

"The YES Board plays a vital role in preparing youth for the workforce by building practical skills, confidence, and a strong work ethic," said Ryan Fowler, Community Services Coordinator. "Through partnerships with businesses, educators, and community leaders, we create meaningful opportunities that support career readiness. We invite those passionate about youth development to apply and help shape the future of our local workforce."

YES programs focus on practical tools such as resume writing, interview techniques, and completing job applications, while reinforcing responsibility, professionalism, and workplace expectations.

Appointed members will serve a two-year term from their appointment date through June 30, 2028. Appointments are made by the City Council based on recommendations from the YES Advisory Board's interview and nomination subcommittee. Meetings are held monthly on the third Wednesday at 8:15 a.m., from August through May.
