James T. Stradtner, former chair of Stevenson University's Board of Trustees, and his wife, Jacqueline, have made a $150,000 gift to endow the James and Jacqueline Stradtner Scholarship for Early Childhood Education. The endowment will provide scholarship support for Stevenson University students pursuing degrees in Early Childhood Education.
"I believe that effective early childhood education lays the foundation for lifelong learning and success," said Jackie Stradtner, who was a second grade teacher with Baltimore County Public Schools and later as a kindergarten educator. "Jim and I are committed to helping the next generation of learners by supporting today's Stevenson students as they prepare to become dedicated, inspiring educators."
The James and Jacqueline Stradtner Scholarship builds on the Stradtners' longstanding philanthropic support of Stevenson University. Previously, they established the James and Jacqueline Stradtner Environmental Sciences Internship Endowment, which supports paid internships for students in Stevenson's Environmental Science program. They also provide annual support for a named scholarship benefiting graduates of Sister's Academy who attend Stevenson and contributed $50,000 to the new Sandra and Malcolm Berman Family Performing Arts Center, naming the Center's James and Jacqueline Stradtner Café.
Jim Stradtner has served on Stevenson University's Board of Trustees for more than 23 years, including four years as Board Chair from 2015 to 2019. Following his term as chair, he was reelected to the Board and continues to serve as a Trustee. A former partner at Alex. Brown and Sons, Stradtner is currently managing partner of Century Private Investments. He and his wife Jackie remain deeply engaged in the Baltimore community, with a particular focus on advancing education and healthcare across the region.
"Jackie and Jim have been extraordinary friends and supporters of Stevenson and our students for more than two decades," said Elliot Hirshman, President of Stevenson University. "Their generosity reflects a deep belief in the power of education to change lives. We are profoundly grateful for their continued leadership, vision, and commitment to Stevenson and its mission."
Founded in 1947, Stevenson University today serves more than 3,700 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
