ATLANTA - Today, House Speaker Jon Burns issued a statement in support of the General Assembly's passage of the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget, which passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support.
"Today, the Georgia House passed a budget that clearly reflects our commitment to supporting families, children and communities across our great state," said House Speaker Jon Burns. "From historic investments in literacy, education, healthcare and infrastructure to economic development and public safety, we are investing where it matters most to secure a better, brighter future for the people of Georgia."
Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Highlights:
The Fiscal Year 2027 Budget provides $70.4 million to place a school-based literacy coach in every K-3 elementary school across the state.
The General Assembly fully funds Quality Basic Education with an appropriation of $14.9 billion.
The Georgia House was proud to support a $4 million investment in strengthening student mental health support and services.
Increasing access to quality education for Georgia's youngest learners is a top priority of the Georgia House, which is why the FY 2027 Budget provides $9.7 million to expand access to Pre-K programs.
The House was proud to support an investment of $100 million to give Georgia's retired state employees regular and meaningful cost-of-living adjustments.
The FY 2027 Budget allocates $11.2 million to increase graduate medical education opportunities for medical students, building on the state's work to increase access to quality, affordable healthcare for Georgians.
The House was proud to provide $3.7 million to expand the Department of Public Health's maternal home visiting program to an additional 33 counties.
The FY 2027 Budget supports local infrastructure projects across the state with an appropriation of $13.6 million for Local Maintenance and Improvement Grants.
