Bicentenary of relations Between Brazil and the Kingdom of Sweden

Brazil and Sweden celebrate 200 years of the establishment of bilateral relations in 2026. The year also marks the 150th anniversary of the visit of Emperor Dom Pedro II to the Kingdom of Sweden, the first visit by a Brazilian Head of State to that country.

Over the course of these two centuries, both trade and investment relations as well as human ties have flourished significantly. Brazil and Sweden currently maintain notable cooperation in innovation, especially in areas such as aeronautics, sustainable mining, life sciences, bioeconomy, sustainable cities, and artificial intelligence.

Brazil and Sweden share values and promote human rights, democracy, and multilateralism-principles that are fundamental for addressing the challenges of today's international landscape. They also share a commitment to combating hunger and poverty and to promoting sustainable development, including the fight against climate change and its impact.

In the context of the bicentenary, initiatives will be carried out in both countries to highlight the dynamic and multifaceted nature of the bilateral relationship, which was elevated to a strategic partnership in 2009.
