While Working Americans Are Squeezed By Skyrocketing Prices, Trump in Davos Claims “People Are Doing Very Well” Arrow

Today, in Davos, Switzerland, Donald Trump spent over an hour claiming that "inflation is defeated" and "people are doing very well. They're very happy with me." Trump boasted about his Big Ugly Bill - which slashed Medicaid and food assistance, and provided the largest tax cut to billionaires in modern history - and declared that there is "a miracle taking place in America."

Meanwhile, as Trump touts his "historic trade deals" and cozies up to his billionaire buddies abroad, a new report revealed that American consumers and importers - not foreign exporters - are bearing 96% of the costs of Trump's tariffs, and prices are likely to rise even higher. Trump's unhinged pursuit of Greenland is causing home mortgage rates to spike, worsening an already challenging real estate market, and the stock market slid after Trump threatened new tariffs on Europe.

Everyday Americans at home are being crushed by his flailing economy. Prices are rising, jobs are disappearing, health care costs are soaring, and homeownership is becoming a pipe dream for millions of working families.

Nearly 70% of Americans are struggling to make ends meet, and over 60% of Americans disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

"Donald Trump is singlehandedly wrecking the economy, and instead of helping working families at home, he's desperately trying to win relevance on the world stage and court the favor of billionaires. Trump's chaotic trade war is crushing consumers, small business owners, and farmers, and he's failing to address rising costs or help the millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet. Americans are fed up with being left behind, and they won't sit by while Trump sells them out."
