Alexandria, VA - The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International seeks comments on candidate American National Standards (ANS) Emergency Communications Common Disposition Codes for Data Exchange.
This standard establishes a common set of disposition codes to support accurate and consistent sharing of incident outcome information across emergency communications centers (ECCs), jurisdictions and disciplines. Standard codes enable improved interoperability during mutual aid operations, regional situational awareness and multi-agency data exchange. The standard is designed to complement, not replace, agencies' existing internal coding practices, allowing local codes to be mapped to the standardized framework for external sharing through CAD systems and authorized data-exchange mechanisms.
"Public safety depends on shared understanding - and that begins with a common language for how incidents are resolved. This standard gives agencies a practical framework for sharing disposition information across jurisdictions without disrupting their day-to-day operations. We encourage public safety professionals at every level to review this standard and share their expertise during the public comment period. The strength of our standards process comes from the breadth of voices that shape it," said Jack Varnado, president of APCO International.
The public may review and comment on this candidate standard from March 27 through May 11, via the APCO website.
