Two friends, two perspectives, and a case that resurfaces after 25 years. Agnieszka Grochowska and Agnieszka Żulewska star in a four-episode drama exploring the limits of friendship and justice. Netflix presents the teaser for "The Law of Beasts" directed by Kasper Bajon. The series premieres November 18 on Netflix.
"The Law of Beasts" is a scripted series about the limits of friendship and justice, and the responsibilities of those who represent the state and its institutions. The story is inspired by the case of Mariusz Trynkiewicz and the events that led to the legislation known in Poland as the "Beasts Act." The story unfolds through the perspectives of two women: Anna Bersz and Agnieszka Grabska. Both face the question of how to protect society while upholding the rule of law, and their decisions put their friendship and professional convictions to the test.
What is "The Law of Beasts" about?
In 1988, Major Anna Bersz leads an investigation into the murders of four boys. Her friend, psychiatrist Agnieszka Grabska, is tasked with assessing the criminal responsibility of the suspect, Mariusz Trynkiewicz. Under pressure from both time and the system, the two women must make decisions that end their friendship and shape the rest of their lives.
Twenty-five years later, the convicted murderer is due to be released. Anna is now a government official, while Agnieszka is a respected expert in psychiatry. Both must confront the case once again, along with the consequences of their past choices.
"The Law of Beasts" follows people representing the state and its institutions as the law, a sense of justice, and the need for safety pull them in different directions. Anna and Agnieszka's relationship, and the price each pays for her decisions, give this conflict a deeply personal dimension.
Is "The Law of Beasts" inspired by true events?
"The Law of Beasts" is inspired by the events that led to the legislation known in Poland as the "Beasts Act." Anna Bersz and Agnieszka Grabska are entirely fictional characters, and their personal stories and friendship were created for the series. Through the experiences of people making decisions on behalf of institutions, viewers can explore the social, moral, and legal consequences of the case.
Who is in the cast of "The Law of Beasts"?
Agnieszka Grochowska and Agnieszka Żulewska play the leading roles.
Grochowska plays Anna Bersz, a determined major in Poland's then police force who seeks to secure the perpetrator's conviction. Years later, as a government official, she becomes involved in the case again, driven by her sense of responsibility for the safety of others.
Żulewska plays Agnieszka Grabska, a psychiatrist tasked with providing an impartial assessment of the suspect's mental state. Her professional duties clash with external pressure and expectations of a particular outcome.
Michał Pawlik plays convicted murderer Mariusz Trynkiewicz. As the end of his sentence approaches, he once again becomes the focus of events and a dispute over what should happen to him after his release from prison.
All four episodes of "The Law of Beasts" will be available November 18, 2026, only on Netflix.
