The gift from Hogs for the Cause is the third-largest donation the campus has received
A $2 million gift is helping Children's Medical Center Plano expand care for North Texas children facing cancer and blood disorders.
Hogs for the Cause donated the money to support the expansion of the Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Plano campus. The gift is the third-largest capital donation the campus has ever received and will help increase both inpatient and outpatient capacity.
The donation also comes with a new name. In recognition of the gift, the center's outpatient unit will now be known as the Hogs for the Cause Outpatient Unit.
The Gill Center treats more than 2,000 new patients each year across Children's Medical Center Plano and Children's Medical Center Dallas, making it the largest program of its kind in North Texas.
A Growing Need In Plano
Children's Health opened its Plano campus in 2008 to provide specialized pediatric care closer to families in Collin and Denton counties. Since then, the communities surrounding the hospital have continued to grow at an unprecidented rate.
The hospital responded with the opening of a 395,000-square-foot patient tower in December 2024. The addition tripled the Plano campus' bed capacity, taking it from 72 beds to 212 with 140 new inpatient beds.
The expanded campus also strengthened specialty programs, including the Gill Center, as more North Texas families seek pediatric cancer and blood disorder care closer to home. Hogs for the Cause's gift will help expand clinical capabilities in cancer and blood disorders while creating additional space for both inpatient and outpatient care.
"This financial commitment from Hogs boosts what's possible for families facing childhood cancer by surrounding them with care, comfort and community when they need it most," said Brent Christopher, president of Children's Medical Center Foundation. "As North Texas continues to grow, so does the need for specialized care near kids."
Supporting Pediatric Cancer Care
For families undergoing cancer treatment, care can mean repeated visits and extended stays at the hospital. The expansion is intended to give Children's Health more room and resources to provide that specialized care while supporting the day-to-day needs of patients and their families.
