President,

I have the honor of delivering this statement on behalf of the EU and its Member States.

The Candidate Countries North Macedonia*, Montenegro*, Albania*, Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina* and Georgia, and the EFTA countries Iceland, and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, as well as Andorra, Monaco and align themselves with this statement.

Thank you to the Presidency for convening this emergency meeting.

I express full solidarity with Poland, a member state of the European Union. Our leaders have been in constant contact with their Polish counterparts the past days and we are offering support in protecting Poland's Eastern border.

The EU condemns in the strongest terms the intentional violation of the airspace of one of our member states by Russian drones, which took place on 10 September. This is an aggressive and reckless act and part of a broader escalation by Russia. It threatens the security of EU citizens, regional stability and international peace. Only two weeks ago, Russian missiles caused severe damage to the EU Delegation in Kyiv. Now 19 of its drones violate our airspace.

It is the latest in a series of violations of EU member states' sovereign airspace that have occurred since 2022. It only strengthens our resolve to support Ukraine and its people in their defence against Russia and their pursuit of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace.

The EU underlines the importance of raising the costs for Moscow further. We will ramp up sanctions significantly on Russia and its enablers. We will also work with our international partners to put pressure on Russia to end this war.

The EU remains steadfast in supporting a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine, based on international law, including the UN Charter, respecting Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, and its inherent right to self-defence.

Our resolve to support Ukraine and its people in their defence against Russia is stronger than ever.

Thank you.

* North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina continue to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
