Mark Schmitz, a distinguished professor in the Department of Geosciences, recently presented at a Carnegie Science's Earth & Planets Laboratory workshop launching the Time-Integrated Matrix for Earth Sciences, or TIMES, initiative. He gave the keynote presentation titled "State-of-the-Art and Challenges in Radioisotopic Dating."
Schmitz is part of a working group in the TIMES initiative that studies radioisotope geochronology. Over the next decade, he will be working with that group to develop the tools needed to recalibrate global climate records from the last 100 million years into a unified, accurate and precise timeline.
