Delozier: House Adopts Resolution Marking October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October 7, 2026

HARRISBURG - A resolution marking October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Pennsylvania passed the House of Representatives today, according to the resolution's sponsor, Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland).

A passionate advocate for victims of crime, rape and domestic violence for more than 30 years, Delozier has introduced this resolution annually to raise awareness and boost education about domestic violence in the Commonwealth. According to the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, 1,500 people have lost their lives to domestic violence over the last decade.

"As someone who has escorted survivors, answered crisis hotline calls and served on the board of a local non-profit, I have seen the profound and lasting impact of domestic violence," said Delozier. "Domestic violence is not a private issue; it is a community issue that can reach into any home.

"House Resolution 638, introduced once again in partnership with my colleague from York County, Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, is rooted in a simple but essential goal: to raise awareness and expand education. When we speak with one clear voice and share the resources survivors need, we help ensure they feel recognized, supported and empowered. Every victim deserves steadfast advocacy and the opportunity to safely rebuild their lives. I appreciate the support of my colleagues as we continue to work toward this critical goal."

Questions about this resolution can be directed to Delozier's office at 717-761-4665.
