The 2026 Summer CSI Forensic Science Camp, jointly organized by Central Police University (CPU), the Ministry of the Interior, and the Taiwan Academy of Forensic Sciences, successfully concluded after a five-day program at Central Police University, culminating in a closing ceremony. This year's camp featured two parallel programs: one for senior high school students and another for senior high school teachers.

The camp was made possible through the generous support of the Dr. Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science Education Foundation, the Rotary Club of Taipei Yenping, and others. Through a comprehensive and diverse curriculum, the program introduced students and educators to the fascinating world of forensic science while showcasing Central Police University's distinctive educational philosophy, which emphasizes both academic excellence and character development.

During the five-day camp, participants received hands-on training in crime scene investigation, forensic evidence examination, simulated crime scene reconstruction, and firearms shooting experiences. In addition to professional forensic courses, they also took part in morning running, physical fitness training, learning the university anthem, disciplined daily routines, and team-building activities. These experiences allowed participants to immerse themselves in the rigorous yet honorable campus culture of Central Police University. Through disciplined living standards and collaborative challenges, participants developed self-discipline, responsibility, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for the importance of teamwork, trust, and adapting to different professional environments.

Recognizing the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on education, this year's camp integrated AI into its forensic science curriculum. Students explored the applications of AI in modern forensic investigations, while participating teachers discussed strategies for incorporating AI into Taiwan's Inquiry and Practice curriculum to strengthen students' abilities in self-directed learning, interdisciplinary thinking, and problem-solving. Throughout the program, the curriculum centered on four core competencies-the ability to ask meaningful questions, critical thinking, initiative, and teamwork-with the goal of preparing young people for success in the AI era.

According to the organizers, the most significant transformation brought by AI is not simply making knowledge more accessible, but dramatically amplifying individual capabilities. Participants were introduced to the concept of the Matthew Effect in the AI era: individuals who ask better questions, think more deeply, and learn more proactively are able to interact with AI more effectively, resulting in richer, deeper, and more innovative learning outcomes. Therefore, cultivating students' ability to ask meaningful questions is not only essential for fostering independent learning but is also the key to harnessing AI effectively and maximizing the benefits of the Matthew Effect.

The teacher program was guided by the educational philosophy of "Nurturing talent is like cultivating trees-when each grows according to its nature, it flourishes naturally." Built upon the principles of questioning, inquiry, encouragement, and appreciation, the program encouraged educators to rethink their roles in the AI era. While AI can rapidly provide knowledge, teachers remain irreplaceable in inspiring students to think critically, igniting their passion for learning, and helping them discover their unique potential. By encouraging thoughtful questioning, promoting inquiry-based learning, motivating students to overcome challenges, and recognizing individual strengths, teachers can guide students toward greater self-awareness through experience, enabling them to identify meaningful life goals and cultivate the intrinsic motivation necessary for lifelong growth.

Since its establishment in 2015, the CSI Forensic Science Camp has organized 16 sessions for senior high school students and 6 sessions for senior high school teachers, attracting more than 3,280 participants. It has gradually developed into one of Taiwan's most distinctive experiential education programs in forensic science. The organizers firmly believe that the purpose of education is not merely to fill students' minds with knowledge, but to ignite the motivation that drives lifelong learning. Likewise, the true value of AI lies not only in providing answers but in amplifying human capability. When students learn to ask meaningful questions, transform those questions into thoughtful action, and continue growing through experience, AI becomes a powerful catalyst that reinforces continuous improvement through the Matthew Effect, enabling technology to serve as a meaningful tool for realizing personal aspirations.

As the closing ceremony marked the successful completion of the camp, participants departed with five days' worth of new knowledge, lasting friendships, and unforgettable personal growth. For many of them, this CSI forensic science journey may well become the starting point of a future dedicated to exploration, innovation, and the courageous pursuit of their dreams.
