Mayor Bowser to Join Thurgood Marshall Academy Students for DC College Application and Exploration Month Rally

(Washington, DC) - On Monday, October 26, 2026, Mayor Muriel Bowser will join leaders from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter School for a community rally celebrating DC College Application and Exploration Month at Thurgood Marshall Academy in Ward 8.

College Application and Exploration Month builds excitement and momentum around the college application and exploration process, giving graduating seniors time and support to complete applications during the school day and encouraging schools to host at least one college and career exploration event during the fall.

The rally will also spotlight Thurgood Marshall Academy's mission-driven, college-prep approach and law-themed focus on civic engagement. Thurgood Marshall Academy's program is designed to prepare students to succeed in college and actively participate in our democracy, and since its first graduating class in 2005, 100% of graduates who have applied have been accepted to college, a testament to the school's sustained commitment to college readiness and alumni support.

OSSE offers students and families a range of resources to prepare for college and careers. The DC Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG) helps DC residents cover the gap between in-state and out-of-state tuition at public colleges nationwide, as well as at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and DC-area private schools. The Mayor's Scholars Undergraduate Program provides additional scholarship and financial aid support to help close remaining gaps. High school students can get a head start through Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and the Advanced Technical Centers (ATCs), which let them earn college credit and industry certifications before they graduate.
