Annual Spring Native American Market returns to Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site April 24-26

SPRINGFIELD - Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site will host its annual Spring Native American Market April 24-26, bringing together some of the nation's most talented Native American artists.

The market will take place in the gallery space at the site's interpretive center. Although the interpretive center museum remains closed to the public for renovations, the gallery will be open for the event. No artifacts will be on display during the market.

Artists representing several Tribal nations will participate, including Muscogee, Santo Domingo, Diné (Navajo), Hopi, Zuni and Ho-Chunk. Visitors will have an opportunity to purchase a variety of authentic Native American artwork and crafts, including jewelry, ceramics, paintings, drawings, clothing, flutes and woodcarvings.

The market offers a unique shopping experience and an opportunity for visitors to interact directly with artists while learning about Native American art and culture. Admission and parking are free, and the event is open to the public. Event hours are:

  • Friday, April 24: noon to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 25: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 26: 9 a.m.to 4 p.m.
Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site
, managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, is located eight miles from St. Louis at 30 Ramey St. in Collinsville. The site grounds are open daily from dawn to dusk. Restrooms and a water fountain are available in the Monks Mound parking lot. Dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash. Guided tours can be scheduled by calling the site. There is no admission fee to explore the site, though suggested donations are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, $2 for students and $15 for families.
