Important Update for County Pool & Spray Park Visitors | Extreme Heat Precautions

Due to ongoing extreme heat conditions and out of an abundance of caution for public safety, the County of Union will be implementing temporary capacity restrictions at select recreation facilities effective Thursday, July 2 and continuing throughout the duration of the current heat wave until further notice.

To help prevent prolonged outdoor wait times and reduce the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and other heat-related illness during dangerously high temperatures, the following procedures will be in effect:

  • Walter E. Ulrich Memorial Pool (located within Rahway River Park)
    • Capacity is determined based on the number of certified lifeguards physically on-site and may vary daily.
  • Wheeler Spray Park
    • Maximum Capacity: 450 Visitors

Once a facility reaches capacity, it will immediately close to additional visitors for the remainder of the day.

There will be no additional entry and no re-entry permitted, even as visitors leave the facility.

These precautionary measures are being implemented to avoid extended outdoor wait times during dangerous heat conditions and ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.

We appreciate the public's understanding and cooperation as we prioritize resident safety during this period of extreme heat. The County will continue monitoring conditions and will provide updates once these temporary restrictions are lifted.

Please stay safe, stay hydrated, and plan accordingly.
