Ascension Saint Agnes proudly celebrates Rachel Rothwell, high-risk maternal-child health social worker, for being recognized by The Daily Record as a Health Care Hero for her outstanding leadership, compassionate care and commitment to improving maternal health outcomes for patients and families.
"Rachel has played a key role in rebuilding and expanding the hospital's outpatient Maternal Child Health Program, which now serves pregnant patients across Baltimore City and three surrounding counties," said Lesley Wallace, Vice President of Population Health, Ascension Saint Agnes. "Working closely with the hospital's obstetrics teams, Rachel has helped strengthen care coordination, connect patients with critical resources and address barriers that can impact maternal and infant health. Through these efforts, she helped reduce the rate of pregnant patients experiencing anemia at delivery."
Beyond clinical care, Rachel has worked to build stronger community connections and expand support for families throughout their pregnancy journey and beyond. She co-founded the Ascension Saint Agnes Baby Closet, which provides essential baby items and resources to patients in need. She has also helped connect families with insurance enrollment assistance, transportation resources and community services while organizing outreach events that have provided hundreds of care bags and essential baby supplies to local families.
Rachel's compassionate, patient-centered approach continues to make a meaningful difference for mothers, babies and the broader community. Her recognition by The Daily Record's Health Care Heroes award program reflects her dedication to improving access to care, creating pathways to healthier outcomes and ensuring every family receives the support and resources needed for a healthy start.
