PASSED: Cortez Masto, Scott Resolution Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Washington, D.C. - Last night, the United States Senate passed a resolution led by Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Rick Scott (R-Fla.) recognizing and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place every year from September 15^th to October 15^th. Hispanic Heritage Month honors the contributions that the Hispanic and Latino communities have made to American achievements, culture, and history.

"The Hispanic community in the United States is an integral part of the American story," said Senator Cortez Masto. "This month is an opportunity to reflect on the progress made by Latinos, celebrate our accomplishments, and continue building a better future. This month and every month, I'm proud of my Latina heritage."

Senator Cortez Masto is the highest-ranking Hispanic Democrat in the Senate, and she is the first and only Latina senator. She has fought to establish a Smithsonian museum to recognize the accomplishments of Latinos. She has introduced resolutions to recognize Latina Equal Pay Day and to celebrate the contributions of Latinas during Women's History Month. She condemned the Trump Education Department's cruel decision to defund the Hispanic Serving Institution grants, which give young Latinos in Nevada more opportunities to succeed. Cortez Masto has consistently fought for greater protections for TPS and DACA recipients.
