Department of State Announces Appointment of Dylan Johnson as Assistant Secretary for Global Public Affairs

The Department of State is pleased to announce the appointment of Dylan Johnson as Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs, effective January 26, 2026.

In this role, the Assistant Secretary will lead the Bureau of Global Public Affairs, overseeing the Department's strategic communications, public messaging, and engagement with domestic and international media.

Johnson brings extensive experience in strategic communications, public affairs, and national security. Johnson currently serves as Special Assistant to the President and Assistant White House Communications Director, responsible for all national security communications.

Prior to joining the White House, Johnson served as Deputy Communications Director to President Donald J. Trump's 2024 campaign. Johnson previously served in the first Trump administration in the Office of Presidential Advance and in the Office of the Governor of Missouri.

In addition to serving as Assistant Secretary, Johnson will continue to lead communications for the National Security Council at the White House.
