Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA Calls Community to Action at Big Night Out
After 45 years of changing lives, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA is marking a major milestone, but the message isn't just celebration. It's urgency.
On May 21, 2026, the organization will host its inaugural event, Big Night Out, a powerful evening designed to both honor decades of impact and confront a growing need: more young people than ever are waiting for a mentor.
Across Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties, hundreds of youths are still on waiting lists, seeking guidance, stability, and someone in their corner. Big Night Out aims to change that.
"This isn't just about celebrating 45 years," said Amy Rote, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA. "It's about what happens next. Right now, there are young people in our communities who are still waiting for someone to show up for them. We all have a role to play in changing that."
The evening will bring together business leaders, elected officials, longtime supporters, and new advocates for a high-impact experience that blends storytelling, recognition, and purpose. Attendees will hear real stories of mentorship, celebrate the organization's Mission Champion Hall of Fame inductees, and see firsthand how one relationship can change the trajectory of a young person's life.
The event is made possible in part by presenting sponsor Capital Blue Cross, whose continued investment in youth mentorship has helped expand programs like Beyond School Walls, connecting students with professionals and real-world opportunities.
But the organization is clear: sponsorships and applause aren't enough.
Big Night Out is a call to action, for mentors, donors, and community champions to step up and help meet the growing demand. Every ticket purchased, every dollar raised, and every connection made moves a young person closer to the support they deserve.
