COLUMBUS - A finding for recovery of $1,493.03 was issued Thursday against the former fiscal officer for Huntington Township in Gallia County, mostly over an extra paycheck that she issued to herself.
The finding against Ashly Walker was included in an audit of the township's finances from Jan. 1, 2022, through Dec. 31, 2023. The full report is available online at https://ohioauditor.gov/auditsearch/search.aspx.
Auditors determined that Walker had issued three paychecks to herself instead of two in September and October of 2023, resulting in an overpayment of $1,275.83. Auditors noted that Walker "was responsible for issuing paychecks and should have been aware of when paychecks were issued and when a paycheck was due."
Auditors also identified $217.20 in fees, penalties and interest paid to the Internal Revenue Service and the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) after payments and a report were filed late.
Walker and her insurance provider are jointly and severally liable for the finding for recovery.
