The Office of Collecting & Design…

Sept. 18, 2026

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Office of Collecting & Design, a traveling museum located inside a 42-foot trailer, will be making a tour stop at the Chandler Museum Oct. 7-11.

Created by multi-disciplinary artist Jessica Oreck, the Office of Collecting & Design is an elaborate love letter of leftover fragments from our collective memories, meticulously organized and displayed for maximum satisfaction and delight. In a world saturated with screens and virtual experiences, the Office of Collecting & Design is a sanctuary untethered from technology, an oasis of tactile exploration, a testament to the tangible, a manifestation of the multi-sensory experience of the analog world.

The Office of Collecting & Design is known for their photographs, specifically a type of image called a flatlay, a careful arrangement of objects photographed from directly above. Visitors can participate in a flatlay experience, scavenger hunt or just take time to roam around and explore.

Tour stops for the Office of Collecting & Design include Denver; Santa Fe, N.M.; Tucson, Ariz.; El Paso, Texas; and Houston. For more information on tour stops and ticket purchases, visit the Office of Collecting & Design.

  • Film Screening & Conversation with Jessica Oreck
    • Friday, Oct. 9 from 6-8 p.m.
    • Threading together short films, trailers and animations, Jessica Oreck traces the trajectory of a practice built on collecting the invisible. Not the magical, science fiction kind, but the everyday details so familiar they've slipped beneath our awareness. Between screenings, she talks about what links one project to the next: the research, the analogue materials, the pull toward the overlooked.

  • Flatlay Workshops
    • Saturday, Oct. 10 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and noon-1 p.m.
    • In these workshops, curator Jessica Oreck arrives with two giant tubs of treasure pulled from the museum's collections and turns visitors loose to sort through them. Once each person has gathered an array of objects that appeal to them, Jessica coaches them through composing a flatlay, photographs it and sends them home with a tiny instant film print.
