Sacramento - Construction on northbound Interstate 5 (I-5) for an extended weekend will require a partial 59-hour closure beginning Friday, September 18 at 6 p.m. and scheduled to last until Monday, September 21 at 5 a.m. The closure is expected to cause major daytime and nighttime delays.

Crews will remove and replace multiple concrete slabs on northbound I-5 lanes at the Pocket Road undercrossing. Due to the location of the work area from eastbound Pocket Road, the northbound I-5 loop on-ramp will be closed for the duration of this work.

The westbound Pocket Road on-ramp to northbound I-5 will remain open. Local eastbound Pocket Road motorists (Pocket and Greenhaven neighborhoods) are urged to use Florin Road as an alternative route to northbound I-5.

Northbound I-5 motorists are to use northbound State Route (Hwy 99) as an alternate route to avoid daytime and nighttime delays.

Caltrans reminds drivers to expect delays, stay alert when traveling through work zones and pay close attention to advance warning signs. Motorists are encouraged to plan in advance and allow extra travel time.

The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph, and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.

Work is scheduled as listed, but is subject to change due to weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, or other construction-related issues.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to "Be Work Zone Alert" and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
