GRAND BLANC, Mich.-- Tuesday afternoon the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) notified the International Brotherhood of Teamsters of its decision to dismiss one of their numerous unfounded unfair labor practice (ULP) charges against Henry Ford Genesys Hospital.
The decision confirms what we have said all along: that the charges were nothing more than an attempt to gain leverage at the bargaining table. The board continues to investigate other claims filed by the union, but we expect those charges to be dismissed as well.
This development should confirm the Teamsters' strike is not about unfair labor practices. Rather, it is a strike for economic reasons.
Since contract negotiations between the hospital and Teamsters Local 332 began last year, the hospital has legally begun implementing a proposed contract that:
The hospital is ready to welcome striking nurses back to work. In the meantime, leaders are actively hiring nurses to help care for hundreds of Genesys Hospital patients each day.
Regardless of the NLRB's findings, we remain committed to working with union leaders to reach a contract that values nurses' unique, professional experience; helps attract and retain new team members; and ensures high-quality patient care for Genessee County.
