Milken Institute SPH Professor Receives Teaching Award

Tammy Henry was recognized for providing innovative and justice-driven public health education.

Tammy Henry, a teaching associate professor in the Department of Prevention and Community Healthat the Milken Institute School of Public Health, received the 2025 GW Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award. This is the second time Henry has earned the honor, which commends her justice-focused approach to public health education.

Before joining GW, Henry worked for more than a decade in state and local health departments in New Jersey and Washington, D.C., addressing health disparities and evaluating health promotion programs.

She has also led major initiatives, including conducting the Maternal Child Health needs assessment in 2014 for the DC Community Health Administration. Henry also designed and implemented a substance use disorder curriculum for the DC Department of Corrections and a social determinant of health curriculum for the Maryland Department of Health.
