Rain Barrels & Water Conservation Workshop January 2026

Cape May Court House - Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources presents the workshop Rain Barrels and Water Conservation on Friday, January 23, 2026. The program will take place from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center, 355 Court House - South Dennis Road, CMCH, NJ 08210.

This workshop is part of the 2026 Garden & Grow series. The goal of the series is to teach locals how to improve or expand their home gardens in new ways.

The presenter is Lauren Heraux, AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassador, Watershed Management Area (WMA) 16. This workshop will discuss how to build a rain barrel including the construction, installation, and maintenance of rain barrels. Rain barrels can help protect our watersheds by reducing runoff, conserving water, and controlling pollution. Also, participants in this workshop will get the opportunity to build their own rain barrels to take home with them.

"Rain barrels are a great way for anyone to get involved in taking action to protect their watershed," said Heraux.

Heraux is the 2025-26 Watershed Ambassador for Cape May Watersheds and is hosted this year by the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County. The AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassadors Program is dedicated to promoting watershed stewardship through free educational programming and direct community involvement through partnership projects.

The cost of the workshop for participants choosing to build a rain barrel to take home is $25. This option is limited to ten people, so, register early at: https://go.rutgers.edu/da52brku.The cost for the lecture without a barrel is $5. Registration required at: https://go.rutgers.edu/8pikyinv.
